Rugs Define A Room & Infuse IT With Personality, Style & Warmth

Rugs define a room and infuse it with personality, style and warmth. They can be one of the most expensive item you buy for your home, so it's important to make sure you choose the right one. Rugs are a terrific alternative to wall-to-wall carpet, namely because they're easier to remove and clean. They're also less of a commitment, and it's easy to switch one out if you get bored or want to redecorate. But it’s not enough to simply have your dream rug – it’s also important to know how to position a rug the right way. Rug is just as important to a room as a piece of art, a sofa or chair.

In interior design, scale refers to the size relationships between items in a room. Large rooms, for example, need larger furniture pieces, artwork and rugs. Rugs that are too small for their space disrupt the balance of scale in a room. The first thing to do is measure your space, then decide on the aesthetic you want. Make sure that your rug should extends under all the key pieces of furniture in the room. If this isn't possible, it's okay to have the front legs of major upholstered pieces on the rug and the back legs off. If you have chairs in the space as well, then the front legs of the chair should be touching or "hovering" on the rug. This placement creates a cosy zone without closing off the area to the rest of the room.

If you follow these three simple rules for rug placements, no matter how creative you get with your rug, you can’t go wrong while adjusting your rugs with the other interior design elements of your home.
